ABOUT AD ASTRA ALC

We’re a small, creative, community-based enrichment center for homeschoolers ages 10–18, designed to nurture passions and celebrate individuality.

Students learn from professionals, peers, facilitators, and the world around them, fostering collaboration and independence. We inspire young minds to become creators, build confidence, critical thinking skills, and above all - build a lifelong love of learning.

We don’t follow a set curriculum. Instead, learners choose the topics they want to explore, while we regularly offer math, reading, writing, history, and science through interactive games and activities. These are designed to complement, not replace, a formal education in these subjects. We also focus on life skills with offerings like Cooking Club, Socratic-style discussions, and conflict resolution. One favorite activity is Explorer’s Club, where teens who are ready venture into the community as young adults to explore new environments, buy their own food, and navigate their way back to a nearby facilitator. And of course, we love going on field trips together as a group.

A Day at Ad Astra ALC

We start each day with a morning meeting. Kids and facilitators collaborate to build the day’s schedule using our Offering Board, which lists all activities, group projects, and individual work that the children may bring from home. We have a quite room if needed to take online classes or study.

Lunch is at 12:00, followed by more activities in the afternoon.

We hold a Change Up meeting in the afternoon to address community needs, brainstorm solutions, and come to agreements. We revisit these decisions weekly to keep things evolving and responsive.

We wrap up the day with a closing meeting to reflect, connect, and plan ahead. We clean up and then hopefully have time to play a game!
