Empowering Young People to Live a Life Full of Joy and Wonder

Accepting Applications for Volunteers(s) at Ad Astra Agile Learning Center

In session August - May | In-Person | Ages 10–18 | East Orlando, FL

Are you passionate about working with young people in a learner-centered,

creative, and collaborative environment? Do you believe education should

empower curiosity, autonomy, and growth?

Ad Astra Agile Learning Center is seeking volunteers to

join our vibrant community. We serve self-directed

learners ages 10–18 through a flexible, relationship-based learning model that

values choice, creativity, and collaboration.

 About the Role

As a volunteer, you’ll help co-create a space where learners feel empowered

to follow their interests, take responsibility for their education, and grow into

their authentic selves. This is not a traditional teaching role—it’s about

mentoring, modeling curiosity, and holding space for self-directed learning.

Volunteering can look like:

  • Creating and leading an engaging activity based on

your interests and learner input (past examples include art, coding,

podcasting, poetry, herbalism, film analysis, improv, and more)

  • Supporting learners in reaching their personal goals

  • Collaborating with fellow facilitators to maintain a safe, inclusive, and

joyful learning environment

  • Practicing and modeling respectful communication and problem-solving

  • Playing games and just hanging out!

  • You’ll be working with young people ranging from upper elementary to high school age, each with unique interests and approaches to learning. Days are structured loosely, with lots of room for creativity and co-creation.

 Hours

Schedule Options:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 9:45 AM – 3:30 PM

 What We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants of all ages and backgrounds—including college

students, career changers, homeschooling parents, and experienced

educators. Above all, we value your ability to connect with young people and

hold space for exploration and growth.

We’re especially looking for folks who are:

  • Curious, adaptable, and comfortable in fluid environments

  • Respectful of children’s autonomy and natural learning processes

  • Excited to share skills, hobbies, or experiences (whatever lights you up!)

  • Excellent communicators who enjoy collaboration and community

building

  • Open to ongoing reflection and growth

    Bonus (but not required):

  • Experience working with neurodivergent learners or diverse learning

  • Familiarity with Agile Learning or self-directed education

 Location

This is an in-person position based in East Orlando area.
